Lee Cattermole: Picked up injury in build-up to Sunderland's game with Evert

The midfielder suffered a knee problem in the build-up to the game at Everton at the weekend, leaving him unable to feature in the 2-1 defeat.

Sunderland have confirmed the 24-year-old will undergo a scan to assess the problem but Cattermole has raised hopes the injury may not be long-term.

He said on Twitter on Monday night: "Nice phone call off the club doc has made me a very happy lad this evening."

Speaking following the defeat at Goodison Park on Saturday, O'Neill had said: "Lee hurt himself (on Friday).

"He hurt his knee in a training session and will have a scan at the beginning of the week."

O'Neill's men face Fulham on Sunday and O'Neill could also be without Steven Fletcher and Phil Bardsley for the trip to West London.

Fletcher picked up a knock in the game at Everton while Bardsley was not fit after suffering a hamstring problem against Aston Villa the previous weekend.
