Costel Pantilimon started in goal for the Black Cats in Albufeira with Vito Mannone ruled out through illness, but there was little for either goalkeeper to do in a first half that will not live long in the memory.

Adam Johnson went close to breaking the deadlock early in the second period with a long-range effort that just cleared the crossbar, and the winger also felt he should have had a penalty when he went down under a challenge inside the box just before the hour mark.

Neither side could find a way through, however, as Sunderland made it one win, one defeat and one draw from their three-game tour having beaten Recreativo Huelva 1-0 before losing to CD Nacional by the same scoreline.

Gus Poyet's side complete their pre-season campaign with games against Real Betis and Udinese next week before the opening game of the Premier League season at West Brom on August 16.

m a big Rafa fan, but when he substitutes Ronaldo after 60 minutes of his first game, which Real draw 1-1, I don't see the Real fans being patient. He'll be gone before October is out.

ell, if he'd be unable to reject an offer from Barcelona or Madrid, he may as well join Arsenal while he's waiting for them to call. It's a logical progression.
