No Monk sympathy for Torres

Swansea City captain Garry Monk was not going to offer Fernando Torres any charity at a time when the Chelsea striker is being widely criticised as overpriced.

Fernando Torres: The Chelsea striker suffered another match to forget

The £50million January 2011 signing from Liverpool suffered another disappointing day on Saturday as he failed to score and was largely a passenger in the Liberty Stadium 1-1 draw.

Monk, who returned to Swansea's team due to the injury of Chico, played alongside Ashley Williams and was responsible for keeping Torres quiet.

And while the Swansea club skipper, who began his career with the Welsh outfit in 2004 against Northampton Town, understands the Chelsea No.9's situation, he was not going to take it easy.

"I came here on a free when we were in League Two, and he's cost £50million," said Monk.

"That's what you're dealing with. We're living in different worlds."

Monk added: "He clearly has quality. But there are hundreds of players overpriced.

"That is not his fault, that Chelsea paid that sort of money for him. He will feel that on his shoulders.

"Once you don't perform, everyone is on your back. I didn't give him a yard."
