Jonathan de Guzman: Has settled quickly at the Liberty Stadium

The Swans boss will have funds to work with in January and is hoping to put some of that kitty towards a swoop for De Guzman, who linked up with the squad on a season-long loan from Villarreal over the summer.

The Dutch midfielder has settled quickly at the Liberty Stadium and has not looked out of place among the Premier League elite.

Laudrup hopes Villarreal, who suffered relegation out of the Spanish top-flight last season, can be persuaded to let De Guzman remain in South Wales.

He said: "We haven't spoken to Villarreal about a long-term agreement but I would like Jonathan to stay. He is doing very well here.

"Some players need time to adapt to the Premier League, so I was surprised he started so well."

Laudrup is also expected to dip into the market for attacking talent in the New Year, with possible targets in the process of being identified.

The Danish coach added: "We have to be prepared for January now. When the possibility is there, then you have to go for it."
