Swansea: Lost to Arsenal

Saturday's 2-0 Premier League defeat against Arsenal, courtesy of goals from Nacho Monreal and Gervinho, was Swansea's second defeat in the three games since their Capital One Cup final success over Bradford.

The Swans have not added to their league tally since reaching the 40-point mark and, although not mathematically assured of safety, they can prepare with confidence for a third Premier League season as well as their foray into the Europa League.

Swansea started brightly against the Gunners, who are still battling for Champions League qualification, only to fade badly.

But Laudrup does not believe the result was down to Arsenal being more desperate for the win.

He said: "It is important to always try - as individuals and a team - to find motivation in each game.

"We compete at the highest level, even in training everyone wants to win.

"If you want to move on and have that ambition to move higher in the coming years, you have to be up for every game.

"Even if you have done well yesterday, you have to do well today and tomorrow, but I cannot say anything about the attitude of this team. They have been excellent."

He added: "The three games since the final have all been tight.

"Against Newcastle and West Brom a draw could have been a fair result and this game could have been 0-0.

"So in terms of points it would have been the same, but I would have preferred three draws to one win and two defeats.

"But it's part of our education. It is not often a smaller club is in this situation. To have 10 or 11 games before the end of the season, and already have a trophy and 40 points, but we have to carry on.

"Some of my players may end up at a top club one day, and then they will need to win every game, so we have to stay motivated."

Arsenal's win keeps them firmly in the mix for a top-four finish as they backed up their victory over Bayern Munich in midweek.

The 2-0 success at the Allianz Arena was not enough to help Arsene Wenger's side reach the last eight of the Champions League, but he believes it marked a turning point in their efforts to qualify for next season's competition.

He said: "I am a great admirer of the attitude of this team, and to win such a big game on Wednesday has transformed the belief of this team.

"We have struggled to find that belief this season but we have seen here you cannot question the solidarity of the players.

"They are showing qualities we will need up to the last day of the season."
