The South Korean midfielder was allowed to complete a season-long loan to Sunderland by former manager Michael Laudrup.

However, with Swansea parting company with Laudrup and placing Garry Monk in temporary charge, the upheaval in south Wales has raised fresh concerns about Ki's future at the Stadium of Light.

Changes on the managerial front could see Ki recalled to the Liberty Stadium next season, although he would only have one year remaining on his contract.

But when asked whether he had spoken with Swansea since Laudrup's departure, Ki told the Sunderland Echo: "No, there hasn't been anything."

Ki is unclear over his status having been loaned out after making 27 appearances for Swansea but claims he feels much more valued at Sunderland and Gus Poyet is reportedly eager to secure the former Celtic midfielder's services.

No idea

"I don't make my future plans because I don't know about my future," added Ki.

"I had no idea I would be going to Swansea and this season I had no idea I would be coming to Sunderland. It was unexpected.

"I had to make a choice to become a better player and Sunderland gave me a hand and an opportunity."

While speculation over his future continues, Ki is determined to prove his worth at the Stadium of Light and insists playing for a club where he feels valued is of paramount importance.

"I don't know about my future, I just try to do my best in every single game I have," he said. "My life is like that. I just look to do my best.

"Maybe other footballers have a dream, to go to big clubs, but, for me, a big club is a club that wants me, a club that needs me - that is my idea of a big club.

"If they love you and need you, that is a big club for me."
