Top Ten Candidates For The Golden Boot

We've tried to be a little inventive with our picks (so no Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo), but there are plenty of reasons to back the ten names on this list for the Golden Boot...

Check out the offer on PP - stick £20 on a top goalscorer and get a £5 free bet each time they score. My two picks are Dzeko and Hazard. Dzeko will hopefully score a barrel load against Iran thus doing a 'Klose v Saudi Arabia'8 and can see them qualifying from that group. Hazard, as minig11 below says has had a cracking season and is also their main penalty taker...

France are in a weak group so I might have a punt on Benzema. Then again so are Belgium. Someone has already tipped Hazard and I thank him for that. Argentina & Brazil have an abundance of striking talent that it's hard to pick someone out. Regarding Ronaldo, Portugal are so unbelievable negative that despite having arguably the best player in the world they will score even less goals than England.

I'm amazed no-one has mentioned Eden Hazard. Had the season of his life and is playing in a very talented Belgium team in a relatively easy group. I know he tailed off towards the end of the season but suspect that was to do with a combination of Mourinho and having one eye on the World Cup. At 80/1 he is a must each way bet

kosjo - Stoichkov and Salenko shared it in 94 having both scored 6 (before it was then decided by assists. Which of course is a stupid way to decide it, I mean assists! Anyway...) However I think Stoichkov was more deserving of it seeing as Bulgaria finished 4th and he scored in 5 of Bulgaria's 7 matches whereas Salenko battered in 5 against Cameroon in the last group game which I guess is still very impressive and still a World Cup record.

I can't believe Neymar, Messi or Ronaldo! We're you trying to be a little inventive with your picks or what?

What about Ronaldo? (Sorry Ed, couldn't resist.) I'd punt on a player from our group of death, ideally RVP. He should score a hat trick against Aust at the very least as we go through our transition phase with 15 yo kids running around. He'll have six goals by end of group stage according to my iOS app I made about goal scoring as I describe: Basically you enter the players name, type in how many goals he/she (Ronaldo) will score in the WC then it will direct you to play FIFA 14 on the Xbone or PS4 where you play out said game on World Class difficulty. Note how many goals the player actually scores in the game and enter that into the app next to your initial predicted score. Then you take a screen dump of your app and upload that in an e-mail to me. I will (or more likely one of my employees) will get back to you in 7-10 working days to say yes or no as to whether the prediction will work out. If we say yes there is a 20-70% chance of it actually happening. So that gives you plenty of ammo to use if having a punt. It's called 'You Stupid Punt' and is available now for $19.99. I'm surprised nobody else has thought of such a simple app.

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish

rop Rooney (he's so disappointing, overrated and overpaid), and play Di Maria and RVP upfront, much like the set up at the Netherlands team with Roben and RVP...
