Emmanuel Adebayor: Set to play for Togo

Emmanuel Adebayor: Set to play for Togo

Togo's sports minister El Hadj Fofana said Adebayor has still not confirmed he will play but he is "optimistic" the Spurs star will make himself available.

The minister also confirmed Adebayor was currently in Ghana, where the Togolese squad was in a training camp, after a meeting with Togo president Faure Gnassingbe about his participation.

Adebayor had initially refused to play at the competition because of security concerns and disagreements with the Togo football federation over bonus payments for players.

"I do not think that he will continue dragging his feet," Fofana said. "As far as I am concerned, his presence in Accra where the national football team is based for its preparation shows that he has come back."

The situation will be clarified on Wednesday when all the competing teams must name their squads.

Adebayor temporarily retired from international football after a gun attack on Togo's team bus at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Angola. Two members of the Togolese party were killed.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
