The France goalkeeper was briefly knocked out in a collision with Romelu Lukaku on Sunday, but after a lengthy delay in play he was able to continue and kept a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park.

Since then the club has come under fire for allowing Lloris to play on, with FIFA's chief medical officer, the Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor and brain injury charity Headway hitting out at the way the incident was dealt with.

But it is the treatment of their club doctor Shabaaz Mughal and physio Geoff Scott that has angered Villas-Boas the most, especially given their past heroics in helping to save Fabrice Muamba's life.

"I stand absolutely by the decision that I took," Villas-Boas said.

"I stand by the decision the medical department took following the checks they made on the player all according to the book. I stand by the decision that gave us the green light for the player to continue.

"I have nothing else to say regarding the matter. I registered the fact that people have taken this opportunity to find a chance to get themselves publicised, people who have no experience on the pitch whatsoever in these types of situations.

"I register the fact that two people and a medical department that two years ago saved the life of a footballer on the pitch have been completely forgotten, poorly treated, badly respected.

"I'm not going to respond to any more questions on the situation and I'm not going to say anything else on the matter.

"My medical department has made and has followed the Premier League guidelines for this type of situation.

"This is not comparable to the NFL situation, to the rugby situation and is not comparable to Andros Townsend's situation or Petr Cech's situation.

"Something that astonishes me is how it's been put in the same mould as all of these situations."

Villas-Boas has already decided his team for Thursday night's Europa League clash with Sherriff, but he would not confirm whether Lloris would be part of it despite him training in full on Wednesday morning.

"He was out on the pitch, the selection has been made but you'll just have to wait," he concluded.

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
