The 22-year-old broke into Roy Hodgson's side in October and helped England qualify for next year's tournament in Brazil after superb performances against Montenegro and Poland.

He is hoping to capitalise on another opportunity to impress manager Hodgson when Chile and Germany visit Wembley, and is aware that competition for places in the squad is fierce.

"I have had my first two games, but there has been a lot of players that have started well in their international careers and faded away, and I can't let that happen to me," he told the FA's official website.

"I've got to keep playing well whenever given the chance and try and force my way on the plane next summer.

"We've got a big squad because we've got fantastic players. Every single one of us is going to be trying to impress in training and in the games to try and get on that plane.

"There aren't too many other opportunities before the summer to play for England and impress the manager so everyone is going to be giving 100 per cent to catch the manager's eye."

Townsend is wary of the challenge that Chile and Germany pose, but is hoping to replicate his previous eye-catching displays for the Three Lions.

He added: "Chile have got some fantastic players, none more so than Alexis Sanchez, so it's not going to be an easy game.

"Germany speak for themselves. I think it's a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against the best so early on going into next summer.

"We can see where we are, see what we've got to work on and see how far we've got to go to be one of the top nations."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
