Tim Sherwood: Deal until the end of next season

Tim Sherwood: Deal until the end of next season

Spurs confirmed their caretaker boss as Andre Villas-Boas' full-time successor on Monday, the day after he oversaw victory at Southampton in his first league game.

Sherwood made it clear after that win he was only interested in taking the role on a long-term basis, and he now has 18 months' leeway in what is his first managerial job.

"It's an honour to be Head Coach of this top club. It's a club that means a lot to me," Sherwood told the club's official website.

"I've known it from the grass roots right up to the first team, worked at every level of the football club and played here.

"If you cut me in half, I bleed the colour of the club. It's a proud moment."

The club's former technical co-ordinator does not have a FIFA Pro Licence and has been given special dispensation to take the job until he completes the course in March.

A more pressing concern is a Christmas programme comprising home games against West Brom and Stoke and a trip to Manchester United.

And following on from that is an FA Cup third-round tie at bitter rivals Arsenal, the club Sherwood supported as a boy.

Spurs overlooked a more experienced candidate in Glenn Hoddle, who made it clear he would love a second crack at the job, but Sherwood's appointment was last week endorsed by the man who added him to the White Hart Lane coaching staff in 2008.

Harry Redknapp said: "He's got great knowledge of football, knows the game, they've got a boy who knows it inside out.

"I saw him work with the U21 team, he's been instrumental in people like Steven Caulker and Andros Townsend coming through."

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
