Andre Villas-Boas: It could be time to leave England

The Portuguese, who spent 17 months at White Hart Lane, was shown the door earlier this month following a 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool.

Villas-Boas had hoped to bring silverware to Tottenham after failing to live up to his growing reputation during a 10-month period at Chelsea which ended with his dismissal in March of last year.

"I wish I could have responded to the confidence shown in me by the fans with a trophy," he said.

"I had great ambitions to win a trophy with Tottenham this season.

"This is now a time of reflection for me and my staff and for repositioning our careers. Nevertheless, England was a great experience."

Villas-Boas, 36, had been lured to Stamford Bridge after guiding Porto to an unprecedented treble of Portuguese league, Cup and Europa League.

However, he was replaced by Roberto Di Matteo after winning just 19 of his 40 games in charge and after three months out the game was recruited by Spurs following the departure of Harry Redknapp.

Despite winning all six matches in their Europa League group campaign, Spurs' inconsistent league form, which included a 6-0 drubbing at Manchester City, finally cost AVB his job on December 16.

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
