Eriksen has become an increasingly influential figure this season following a summer move from Ajax, and rescued a point for Spurs at the weekend.

Tottenham were trailing 3-2 at The Hawthorns when Eriksen was presented with a chance to equalise deep into stoppage-time, and he kept his cool to fire home a tremendous finish.

It is this composure which marks the Denmark international out as a special talent in Sherwood's mind, and evoked memories of Arsenal legend Bergkamp.

Sherwood said: "Eriksen is one who just can't be left out. He's Bergkamp-esque.

"You want someone to rush those chances, as an opposition manager, but when it lands to him you know he's going to be ice cold.

"Once he cut inside I knew the net was catching the ball."

Eriksen's goal capped a great comeback from 3-0 down, after a disastrous start had left Tottenham with a mountain to climb.

And defender Younes Kaboul admits Sherwood needed to get tough with his players at half-time to try and inspire a turnaround.

Kaboul said: "You just cannot start games like that. Was the gaffer angry? Yes, of course he was.

"And we agreed with him. He told us we needed to show another face second half and show our quality, which we did.

"We needed to because it looked like it was almost game over very early on. I can't even explain why we started so badly."

wo things. First, I can't stop reading your name as 'Dane Bowers'. Second, you used the words 'philosophy' and 'Redknapp' in the same sentence.
