Speculation annoys Sherwood

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood says the continued speculation about his future is "disappointing".

But he insists that he will not be distracted from finishing the season with two victories and a club record-equalling 72 points in the Premier League.

Speculation has been rife for weeks that Sherwood - appointed boss following the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas mid-season - would be jettisoned in the summer in favour of a big-name coach.

Louis van Gaal has been linked with Spurs, and then on Tuesday Ajax boss Frank de Boer claimed the North London club had actually been in touch with the Dutch giants about the possibility of joining them.

Tottenham denied this on Wednesday but Sherwood told Sky Sports News: "When clubs are coming out and saying Tottenham have actually spoken to them and managers are coming out and saying they've spoken to them too, it's disappointing.

"Somewhere along the line someone is telling porkies, I don't know for sure.

"Tottenham are not making any comment on that until the season finishes. So I'm just carrying on as I normally do, being as professional as I can and preparing the team.

"I've got two more games to go. We've had a good run recently. If we can get maximum points then we will get a record amount of points for Tottenham which is 72. It will just be a shame that we didn't start the season any better.

"I just get on with it. There's not a press conference I've done since I took over when another name hasn't been mentioned.

"I've just got to get on with the job. The fans deserve that. In my opinion we've got one of the best fans nucleus in the country. We've got 40,000 fans waiting for a season ticket. It's a huge club. They deserve a manager who will give 100 percent to the cause."

Despite the continued speculation, Sherwood confirmed that none of the Spurs hierarchy have spoken to him, either to reassure him - or otherwise.

"I haven't spoken to them. They've made a statement saying there will be talks at the end of the season. We'll see where that takes us. But at the moment I'm enjoying it. It's a great honour to be at this football club," he continued.

"It's a difficult time when I go into these press conferences and there are outside distractions. But I really have to concentrate, for the sake of these great fans, on getting us maximum points.

"I think it's gone reasonably well for me in the Premier League. If we'd started the season better we might be in a better position in the league table."

Sherwood pointed to the example of Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool as how a club has stuck by "the right man" in the highly competitive race for the Champions League.

"We'll just have to wait and see. It's harder and harder to get that Champions League spot," he said. "The emergence of Liverpool this season has been a real minus for us. They've given Brendan Rodgers the time to build. They finished seventh last year but they had the correct man - look at them now."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
