Jonny Hayes: Set for Dons talks

Manager Craig Brown has confirmed Aberdeen will soon have further talks with Inverness winger Jonny Hayes over a transfer to Pittodrie.

Brown has made his interest known in the out-of-contract Caley Thistle winger as he bids to enhance his options for next season after another disappointing campaign for the Dons.

Asked when he expects to meet Hayes, Brown said: "This week or next week. He won't sign for anyone certainly without coming and seeing us.

"He's given that undertaking and I'm sure he'll honour that."

Further discussions on recruitment are ongoing but Brown was not prepared to disclose the names of his targets.

He added: "There are other talks going on, with players but the players are with clubs at the moment and they're out of contract.

"We're talking to them and I always advise the manager (of the player's current club) out of courtesy."

Josh Magennis has been offered a new deal and Brown anticipates the versatile player will soon join goalkeeper Jamie Langfield and defender Clark Robertson in extending his stay at Pittodrie.

Brown added: "I'm assuming he had signed it. If he hasn't signed it, he's only that much away from signing it.

"Everything to me seemed very positive. I don't think it's going to be a major issue."

Brown is eager for his side to improve in Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Kilmarnock after losses to relegation-threatened Dunfermline and Hibernian in the last week.

Brown added: "Kilmarnock are sitting there in a position to be the best of the rest, but we've got to try to win our last two games."

However, Brown insisted progress is being made, albeit slowly.

He said: "There's improvement since last season in as much as we're a point more than we were and we've got two games left.

"We were comfortably clear of the relegation issue more quickly than last year, but it's not been a good season.

"But it has been horrendously disturbed by injury. No other club has experienced the amount of injuries that we've had.

"That's not an excuse, it's an explanation, and it obviously affects results."
