Sheffield Wednesday have announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Diogo Amado.

The 22-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Hillsborough and will join the Owls subject to international clearance.

The former Portugal Under-21 international began his career at Sporting Lisbon before moving to Uniao Leiria and spent last season on loan at Estoril as the club won the Portuguese second division.

The Lagos-born youngster will link up with compatriot Jose Semedo at the Championship club and is enthusiastic about the challenge ahead with Dave Jones' side.

"I am incredibly excited about this move," he told the club's official website. "I know Sheffield Wednesday from Portugal and it is a big, big club.

"I played with Jose Semedo at Sporting Lisbon and he is a great guy and he will help me settle into Sheffield. I am really looking forward to this."
