Christian Eriksen has denied suggestions he is unwilling to sign a new deal at Ajax but admitted he wished to keep his options open.

The Denmark international's current contract expires in the summer of 2014 and the Amsterdammers' director of football Marc Overmars said recently Eriksen had informed the club he would not be renewing.

The talented 20-year-old insisted that was not the case but stopped short of committing himself to Ajax.

Eriksen told Danish website Sporten.dk: "I have not actually said I won't stay but what I have said to them is that I want to keep my options open.

"I will leave at some time but when it happens I don't know.

"I still have a contract until 2014 and I feel fine at Ajax. I understand that they will try to extend my deal but I also feel that eventually I will try something new.

"My agent is currently talking to the club and I have not said yes or no to anything."

Overmars said previously he was keen for Eriksen to remain at the ArenA but that the player was hinting at leaving.

"We would like Christian to sign a new contract with us, but it's not something he wants," said the former Holland winger.

"We will see what happens after this year."

Overmars claimed the club had not received any offers for Eriksen but hoped, in time, he would play for one of the continent's big guns.

"Right now there is nothing concrete," he added.

"No clubs have contacted me with an offer yet. For Christian it is important to choose the right club and I believe that Ajax and Christian together can take the right step for him.

"I would really like to see Christian play for a major European club to see how he will go.

"He could play for all the major clubs, it would not be a problem for him.

"You should not be worried that he would not be able to cope with clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid and other big clubs.

"It's just important to choose the right one."
