Luis Suarez: Werner insists he won't

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner insists the club have no intention of selling Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay forward has been linked with a big-money move to Manchester City although Blues manager Roberto Mancini has dismissed such speculation.

Suarez has become a match-winner for the Reds, his two goals in the 3-0 win against Wigan on Saturday taking his total to 10 to become the leading scorer in the Barclays Premier League this season.

The 25-year-old has his detractors following last season's ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra as well as questions over some on-field behaviour, and recurring accusations of diving.

However, his contribution to the Anfield team is invaluable and Werner guaranteed the club's fans he will not be selling the player.

Asked if Suarez could be sold in the immediate or longer term, Werner said: "Absolutely not. He's a beautiful player to watch and, as a Liverpool fan, I hope I'm watching him for many years to come.

"We made a long-term contract with him and we are going to see a lot of his play at Liverpool," Werner said in quotes carried by several national newspapers.

Goalkeeper Jose Reina insists it is normal that in-form Suarez will attract interest from other clubs but he is confident the striker is happy at Anfield.

Reina said: "Luis is on fire. He is in really good form and he looks like he can score every game and for us that is very important because we need to profit from that.

"He will attract the interest of many clubs, it is only normal, but he is quite happy at Liverpool and that is the important thing for us and the supporters.

"Jamie Carragher said even if he is not the best player then he is the player in better form than anyone in the league right now.

"He is certainly a world-class striker and it is a good thing he is playing for Liverpool."
