Brazil are expected to appoint Luiz Felipe Scolari as their new coach.

The country's Football Confederation confirmed the replacement for Mano Menezes, who was sacked last week after little more than two years in charge, would be announced on Thursday.

Confederation president Jose Maria Marin was quoted as saying by Jornal O Globo: "We did a thorough evaluation, we analysed various elements and especially experience.

"A World Cup requires above all a lot of ability and experience."

Menezes was dismissed because Marin wanted a new approach ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and, after initially saying the new man would be appointed in January, the decision has been brought forward.

Scolari coached Brazil to their last World Cup triumph, in 2002, and also took Portugal to the 2006 World Cup and 2004 and 2008 European Championships.

The former Chelsea boss left his position in charge of Palmeiras earlier this year.

Carlos Alberto Parreira, who won the 1994 World Cup with Brazil, revealed he would be coming in as technical co-ordinator and was looking forward to working with Scolari.

"I have great relationship with Scolari and it will be a pleasure to work with him," he told the newspaper.
