Posh remain rooted to the bottom of the npower Championship table after Saturday's 4-1 home defeat to Blackpool - a 15th loss in 20 league matches which was described as "embarrassing" by Ferguson.

Some of the London Road faithful's patience with Ferguson is wearing thin, but MacAnthony has thrown his weight behind the under-fire manager and predicted a vast improvement in the team's form.

"Sacking the most successful manager in our recent history would be ridiculous," said MacAnthony on Twitter. "There is nobody more committed to getting it right and he will do it!"

MacAnthony then reeled off a 10-point list of reasons for fans to remain positive, some of which included: "We have had horrendous 20 league games so far, yet not down. We are actually only four points from safety.

"We have new striker [Dwight Gayle] who will be prolific for club for years to come. Gayle and [Saido] Berahino are yet to play together, when they do, hell of a strikeforce who could score some goals together.

"Injuries have robbed us of one of best attacking left-backs in Championship in Tommy Rowe and if he stays fit, will only improve us.

"The Boss [Michael Bostwick] is back from suspension for the next game plus our skipper [Gaby Zakuani] may finally force his way back in. Both could be colossal when on form."

The Posh owner concluded: "Myself and the manager have great trust in what we are planning for the future and it's important to be together when things are not going well.

"As bad as results have been, we are not a million miles away football-wise and need that confidence/luck in front of goal. It's coming! I have been here before when things have turned dark and gloomy and know what it takes to ensure the club comes back from it."
