Dick Advocaat: Called for reinforcements

PSV Eindhoven technical manager Marcel Brands is adamant the club will not react to two key Eredivisie defeats by making rash signings in the January window.

PSV have lost their last two domestic fixtures - 2-1 at home to second-placed Vitesse Arnhem and, last weekend, 3-1 at fourth-placed Ajax.

Coach Dick Advocaat has called for squad reinforcements but Brands says there will be no panic purchases at the Philips Stadion and reiterated his belief that the current players are good enough to win the league.

He told AD: "We said that in the summer, even in the media, why should we change now."

As for Advocaat's demand, he said: "That's what most coaches say. Dick keeps us on our toes."

PSV, who have also had to juggle Europa League fixtures with their domestic commitments, recently lost forward Ola Toivonen to a hamstring injury.

"If Ola's rehabilitation time is long and we can make an investment for the future that is justified then we will consider it," said Brands.

"We knew we were vulnerable in midfield because midfielder Atiba Hutchinson is being used on the right.

"But when Toivonen comes back is key - February or April. That's a big difference. But we will not sign anyone who is only half necessary. We do no panic buy."

The recent defeats have seen PSV slip to third in the table, a point behind joint leaders FC Twente and Vitesse.
