Bury are under an embargo

Bury have announced that they have been placed under a transfer embargo by the Football League.

The struggling Shakers are currently prevented from making any new signings pending an investigation into a short-term loan they received from the Professional Footballers' Association.

A short statement on the League One club's website read: "Bury Football Club can confirm that they are currently under a Football League embargo for registering new players.

"This embargo is a result of the club obtaining a temporary short term loan from the PFA until mid-January 2013.

"The club will make a further statement shortly."

Bury suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Leyton Orient on Saturday which left them third from bottom in the division.
