Kevin De Bruyne: Departed Chelsea on loa

The Belgium international was signed by the Blues last summer, but was loaned out to Werder Bremen before making a competitive appearance.

He is to spend the entire 2012/13 campaign in the Bundesliga picking up valuable experience, with it hoped that he will return to Stamford Bridge ready to challenge for a starting berth.

De Bruyne insists he is not about to give up on his Premier League dream and is looking forward to heading back to England.

The 21-year-old is, however, aware that he faces fierce competition for places at Chelsea and that he may be forced to head back out on loan next season in order to get minutes under his belt.

"I am definitely going to spend pre-season with Chelsea. After that, we will see what happens," De Bruyne told Kreiszeitung Syke.

"I know it will be very tough for me to accept being just a substitute. I know I would become extremely unhappy.

"I want to play every match and if that doesn't happen at Chelsea, then perhaps I will have to find a club that are a bit lower in standard."
