Steven Pressley: Coventry keen on Falkir

Coventry have been granted permission to hold talks with Falkirk's Steven Pressley over the vacant managerial position at the Ricoh Arena.

Should the discussions reach a successful conclusion, former Scotland defender Pressley, 39, would succeed Mark Robins at the npower League One outfit.

Robins won 17 and drew six of 33 games during a five-month tenure before leaving to take charge of Huddersfield last month.

Coventry and Falkirk both confirmed the news in short statements on their official websites on Wednesday afternoon.

Falkirk chairman Martin Ritchie told STV: "We have an agreement with Steven that, should a club come calling, then we wouldn't stand in his way if he felt it was a career progression.

"There has been no offer from Coventry to release Steven from his current contract, so he is still contracted to us.

"At the moment, I'd expect him to be in the dugout for this weekend's match [at Morton]. But you can never tell.

"Steven has been attracting interest from clubs over the last 12 months, so it doesn't surprise me another club is interested in our manager."

Should Pressley take the reins at Coventry, who currently lie seven points shy of the play-off places in ninth position, he would turn his back on Falkirk's forthcoming William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against Hibernian on April 13.

Last season he led the Irn-Bru Division One side to the same stage of the League Cup, where they fell to beaten finalists Celtic.
