Brighton manager Gus Poyet fears he may have taken the club as far as he can after their promotion bid came to an end last night.

Two goals from Wilfried Zaha gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 victory over their arch rivals in the npower Championship play-off semi-final.

Poyet will be seeking assurances from club owner Tony Bloom about the level of ambition at the Amex Stadium before deciding on his future.

"I've not been in this situation but I don't like it," he said.

"It's changed my view completely about everything I was prepared for, so we'll see now.

"I have always said that all the time we keep improving I am going to be at this football club and the day we hit the roof, I'm not.

"Is there something more? Right now I don't know, so I need to make sure I know there is, because if not I am not going to stay forever."

Zaha's brace - a diving header in the 69th minute and a superb turn and shot two minutes from time, secured Palace a trip to Wembley where they will face Watford in a fortnight.

The 20-year-old has already earned Palace £15million after agreeing to join Manchester United in the summer, and his leaving gift could be the multi-million pound windfall which promotion brings.

Boss Ian Holloway said: "We've lost that boy but he got us to a Wembley final.

"I believe Wilf will be a matchwinner at the top, top level but he wanted to keep playing well for us and you saw that."

The Eagles had been written off as promotion contenders having staggered into the play-offs with one win in 10 matches.

Holloway added: "We've come to the hardest place ever and passed a test of character. Did I doubt my lads? No. Did I doubt myself? No."
