Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has confirmed that Pavel Pogrebnyak could be set to leave the club due to a relegation release clause in his contract.
The Russian international striker joined the Royals last summer on a free from Stuttgart after he impressed during a stint on loan at Fulham.
However, things have not gone according to plan as he only scored five goals - one less than he managed during his half-a-season stint at Craven Cottage.
Now Reading have been relegated it seems likely that Pogrebnyak, as one of the club's highest earners, could leave.
"There's a clause in his contract which allows him to leave Reading if the club was relegated," Zingarevich told Rossiiskaya Gazeta.
"Regarding his five goals, Pogrebnyak can be blamed the least. Yes, he couldn't score some chances but the team couldn't create a single chance for him during some games.
"Pavel is considered to be a dependent and a strong striker in England."
Pogrebnyak signed a four-year contract at the Madejski Stadium when he joined.
