Dimitri Payet: Set for Marseille

The France international played a starring role last season for Les Dogues, filling the shoes of the departed Eden Hazard on their left wing.

And a Marseille statement this evening read: "Dimitri Payet, OM and Lille have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the player subject to the medical, which will take place next week."

OM resorted to basketball parlance in praising Payet's "double-double" of 12 goals and 12 assists for Lille last season. The latter mark was jointly the best in Ligue 1, matched by Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena.

His superb season was enough to earn the 26-year-old a recall to the France team for the first time since 2010 and also his first two international starts, in this month's friendly defeats to Brazil and Uruguay.
