Mike Pollitt: Staying at Wigan

Pollitt joined the Latics from Rotherham in 2005 and will now prepare for his ninth season at the DW Stadium as Wigan look to make an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League following relegation.

Pollitt, who will turn 42 in February, made two FA Cup appearances last season, starting in the 1-1 third-round draw at home to Bournemouth and the 1-0 replay win only to be forced off at half-time due to a thigh injury which required surgery.

"I'm delighted to sign," Pollitt told the club's official website.

"I picked up a bad injury back in January, the worst of my career to be honest, but I'm feeling good now, managed to get some training in towards the end of the season and have been doing a lot of work during the summer to make sure I can come back to training fighting fit.

"This will be pre-season number 25 for me and there's probably many people who can't say that so I'm made up to be preparing for it and come Monday I'll be in the pack once more, starting the hard work to be ready for the start of my ninth season at the club."
