Andros Townsend: Desperate to make an im

Andros Townsend says he would not consider another loan move as he believes he is ready to make his mark at Tottenham Hotspur.

Townsend has been on Spurs' books since he was a boy but has yet to establish himself as a key player at White Hart Lane and has spent time out on loan with nine different clubs.

However, an eye-catching spell with Queens Park Rangers last season has boosted the 22-year-old's confidence and he is now determined to make an impact at Tottenham.

Townsend was fined and banned for breaching Football Association betting regulations in June but staked his claim for regular first-team football at Spurs with a dazzling display in Thursday's 5-0 Europa League victory over Dinamo Tbilisi.

"I had a rough summer but I have put that behind me," he said in the Daily Star. "I am now even more determined to have a good season and get the doubters and the bad press off my back.

"That is what I will be looking to do whenever I get the chance. I have been at this club since I was eight and I am a Tottenham fan, so my main objective is to try and force my way into the team.

"I know it is difficult. We have got fantastic, world-class players. But my mind is just focused on trying to score goals and play like I did against Dinamo.

"Would I consider another loan? For me, no. I am 22 - I need to focus and try and make the grade at Tottenham. I wouldn't consider another loan deal."

While Gareth Bale is expected to join Real Madrid before the transfer deadline, Spurs have also been busy strengthening their squad and Townsend faces fierce competition for a starting spot.

But he is ready for the challenge, insisting: "I think whoever is here come September 3, it is going to be difficult for me. Aaron Lennon is a world class player, there is Nacer Chadli, Gylfi Sigurdsson. There is competition.

"But it is an exciting time to be here. You have seen we have made fantastic signings already - Roberto Soldado, Etienne Capoue, Chadli - we have made great signings.

"Even if the transfers stop, we have still got a great squad going into the season. The main thing is that we create chances and we put away chances."
