The 24-year-old joined Newcastle from Reims last summer and was regarded as one for the future by Alan Pardew.

Amalfitano made four first-team appearances for Newcastle last season, all in the Europa League, with his last outing coming back in November.

The Frenchman is well down the pecking order in Pardew's plans and the club feel he will be best served to go out on loan to get regular first-team football.

Ironically, his return to France comes after his elder brother Morgan moved to England to join West Brom on loan from Marseille earlier this week.
