Vlad Chiriches: Can now play for Tottenh

Chiriches signed for Tottenham from Steaua Bucharest three weeks ago, but he is yet to see any action because he had not received clearance from the authorities.

Andre Villas-Boas expressed his frustration at the delay earlier this week, but the Tottenham manager revealed after the 3-0 win over Tromso on Thursday that the centre-back has now received his papers and could feature in either of the club's next two games.

"I think it has arrived today," Villas-Boas said.

"So hopefully everything can be concluded."

Chiriches, who has been training with the squad for the last three weeks, is likely to be named as a substitute for Sunday's game at Cardiff following injuries to Danny Rose and Younes Kaboul.

Villas-Boas had accused the Football League of putting his players' careers in danger with their scheduling of the Capital One Cup, but it was the low-key European clash against the Norwegian Group K minnows that claimed three injury victims. Rose pulled up with an ankle injury in the first half, Kaboul hobbled off with an adductor problem in the second half and Mousa Dembele had to be carried off on a stretcher after being kicked from behind.

Villas-Boas played down fears of an injury crisis, though, hinting that Dembele and Kaboul could even be fit for the trip to Cardiff, which comes just two days before Spurs visit Villa in the Capital One Cup.

"Dembele should be OK," Villas-Boas said.

"He felt a lot of pain when he was brought down, but now he's steady.

"Younes felt muscle tightness in his adductor and we decided to take him off. He was struggling but he didn't rupture anything.

"We have to be a little bit more careful with Danny Rose. We hope it's not serious.

"We have to give him one night to see the reaction of his ankle. He is in doubt for Sunday but he should be OK."

With the hectic fixture schedule in mind, Villas-Boas made six changes to his starting XI for the Europa League game and his squad players responded well.

Jermain Defoe, assisted by Lewis Holtby and Erik Lamela, scored twice and Christian Eriksen scored his first goal for the club with a tremendous dipping shot.

Defoe, who this week expressed frustration at his lack of game time, hopes he has given Villas-Boas a selection headache for the trip to Wales.

"When you get an opportunity you've got to take it - it's as simple as that," the England striker said.

"The performance was good tonight - we've won the game quite comfortably.

"It's a case of working hard for the team, to win the game. There's a good spirit there and the new lads have been brilliant."
