Bayern Munich forward Toni Kroos left the door open for a switch to the Barclays Premier League in the summer.
Tim Sherwood claims the "silence is deafening" from the Tottenham board amid speculation he could be replaced as manager.
Leeds boss Brian McDermott has played down talk linking him with a move for former Tottenham winger David Bentley.
Reports over the weekend suggested Leeds were lining up a move for free agent Bentley following his release by Tottenham earlier this summer.
McDermott is an admirer of Bentley, but insists he has no plans to sign the 29-year-old as he has enough cover in Bentley's position.
"There is no point me bringing in a player for the sake of it. I won't just bring players in because we can. That might have happened in the past at other clubs or here, but I'm not going to do that," said McDermott.
"David Bentley has been available for a little while and has been a good player. But we've got Ross McCormack and El Hadji Diouf, so you're talking about similar sort of players.
"Bentley is a good player, but when you've got Ross and Dioufy, you've got players that are already in that mould.
"The last thing that you want to do is stockpile players in a position, it's just not right."
