Tony Pulis: Set for a return to the Prem

Tony Pulis remains the hot favourite to become Crystal Palace's new manager with Sky Bet following Ian Holloway's departure on Wednesday evening.

The former Stoke boss was the one punters latched onto after Holloway and Palace co-chairman Steve Parish announced the split by mutual consent at a hastily-arranged press conference, which came two days after the team lost 4-1 at home to Fulham.

As the news broke, Sky Bet were initially split between making Pulis and Neil Warnock the favourite in their next Crystal Palace manager market.

However, Pulis, who left Stoke last summer, was soon the one attracting cash.

Sky Bet installed him originally at 6/1 but by that quickly turned into 2/1. As the evening turned into night he was the 5/4 favourite and by Thursday morning he was into 4/5, with plenty of newspapers claiming he'll be the man to be approached first.

Pulis firmed up further as favourite throughout the day and was as short as 2/7 at 1430 BST.

Warnock has drifted well out to 33/1 with now Avram Grant the nearest challenger to Pulis at 16/1.

Parish admitted Palace need someone with top-flight experience.

On Pulis, he said: "He's never been relegated, and he's out of work. We'll look.

"People with some kind of affinity with the club, that does help when times are tough.

"I wouldn't discount anyone."

Holloway explained his exit by saying: "This club needs an impetus of energy. But I just feel tired to be honest. I'm worn out.

"I want to give them the chance to stay in this division."

Palace host leaders Arsenal on Saturday. Keith Millen has been placed in temporary charge.
