James Morrison: West Brom man glad to be

The Baggies have endured a difficult campaign, as Steve Clarke's dismissal as manager in December was followed by Nicolas Anelka being hit with a five-match ban last month for his controversial 'quenelle' gesture.

On top of all that, new manager Pepe Mel's future at The Hawthorns is reportedly under doubt with the club currently 17th in the Premier League with 25 points from 27 matches, just a point above the relegation zone.

Morrison admits that 2013-14 has been a tumultuous campaign and is glad to get away from the club for a few days on Scotland duty.

"It has been a mixed season for me," the Daily Record quotes the 27-year-old as saying. "I wasn't playing at the start and there just seems to have been a lot going on at the club really.

"It has been one thing after another with managers changing and people getting suspended. It's hassles that we didn't need.

"Does it feel like a soap opera? Yeah, it does. You should try being involved in it. It has not been ideal and there was talk of the new manager going last week.

"But the lads have been great. We are all pulling together. It's good to come away and join up with the Scotland squad.

"It's a different mindset, a different environment, and that's good for me."
