Callum Wilson: Has caught the eye at Cov

Callum Wilson: Has caught the eye at Cov

Wilson netted 22 times for Coventry in the 2013/14 campaign despite missing two months of the season with a dislocated shoulder.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed, with a number of Sky Bet Championship sides shooting admiring glances in his direction.

Bournemouth, Norwich City, Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers are understood to be those showing the most interest at present.

Coventry boss Steven Pressley concedes that the clamour for Wilson’s signature is only likely to intensify, but he remains optimistic that the talented 22-year-old’s services can be retained.

He said in the Coventry Telegraph: “The current situation is he’s not for sale.

“When you have got four clubs involved, the bidding can become very aggressive.

“But as I have stressed before, the situation is Callum is a player we don’t want to lose and is an integral part of what we want to create here.”

Development director Steve Waggott is also hoping to see Wilson spearhead Coventry’s promotion push next season, with all offers tabled so far having been knocked back.

He said: “We have had approaches from other Championship clubs who are keen to secure the services of one of the best young strikers around in League One at the moment.

“But as it stands, we have rebuffed and rejected all offers that have come in.

“We have had what I would call four firm enquiries altogether, compromising two written bids, one quite firm verbal offer and one indicative enquiry where they have said they are interested.

“They are all Championship clubs, which is to be expected, to be honest.”
