ARSENAL IN FOR STURRIDGE
Fresh from talk in Tuesday's papers that Arsenal might be making a move for Eden Hazard, The Daily Mail has an even more unlikely theory.

They report that Arsenal are lining up a move for Daniel Sturridge, who is apparently still not happy about his current wide role, and also wants to negotiate a new contract at Chelsea, which the club are unwilling to do.

All of this apparently amounts to a big old split between club and player, and Aresnal are preparing to 'swoop'.

The Mail reports: 'Sturridge, 22, is the Blues' top-scoring forward this season with 10 goals, but sources close to the player claim he is not happy with his role as a right winger under Andre Villas-Boas.

'And Arsenal's influential chief scout Steve Rowley has put the wheels in motion to effect a surprise switch.'

TORRES IN SOME ATLETICO SWAPSIES
Rather unlikely tale of more Chelsea strikers doing one now.

The Daily Star reports that Chelsea are planning to offer Fernando Torres in a swap deal for Atletico Madrid hunk Falcao.

The paper reports: 'Despite Torres' record-breaking move to Stamford Bridge turning into a disaster, the Blues are ready to spend big again on a replacement striker.

'Starsport can reveal Chelsea have had representatives at virtually every Atletico Madrid game for the last three months watching Falcao, who is 26 on Friday.'

Quite why they'd need to check him out that closely, given that Andre Villas-Boas managed him for a year at Porto, is unclear, but you can't accuse them of not doing their homework.

BARCA IN FOR BALE
Some 2+2=5 stuff in The Daily Mirror, who go with the headline 'How Arsenal can help Barca buy Bale.'

The paper claims that Barcelona are looking to sell off a few fringe players in order to move for Gareth Bale, including Isaac Cuenca, Cristian Tello and Jonathan Dos Santos.

Apparently, Arsenal are interested in the former two, so if they purchase both those youngsters, they will be filling Barca's coffers so they can buy Bale.

We're picturing Arsene Wenger with a cigar clamped between his teeth, chuckling 'I love it when a plan comes together.'

CITY & UNITED DUKE IT OUT
This is a rumour that was doing the rounds during and before the transfer window, we seem to recall, but who are we to judge the glory of The Daily Mirror?

The paper reports that Manchester City 'could be ready' to duke it out with Manchester United for Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan.

The paper claims: 'The Premier League leaders watched Argentinian, 23, in Benfica's Portugese League Cup win over Maritimo.

'United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been tracking Gaitan for the past few months, and Benfica are braced for a battle to keep him this summer.'

HOILETT TO BAYERN?
Ooof. This is going to sting.

The Daily Mirror reports that Junior Hoilett looks like he's about to leave Blackburn for Bayern Munich, and they might only get a paltry sum for the winger.

And by 'paltry sum' we mean 'around £675,000.' Ouch.

The Mirror claims: 'Rovers would hope to pick up between £4million-6million in compensation if he moved to another Premier League side, because he is under 23.

'However, they would be entitled to much less if Hoilett is picked up by Bayern as different compensation rules apply for players moving abroad.'
