SPURS TO RE-SIGN MICKY HAZARD?
You'll probably have heard that joke a dozen or so times before, but sod you. We thought it was funny.

The actual rumour is that Spurs, rather surprisingly and excitingly, have won the race to sign Lille's Belgian wunderkind Eden Hazard, beating off (leave it) the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal...basically every big club on the continent.

How marvellous. The story comes from France Football, not a publication to usually be too hasty on the old trigger finger, and Hazard is quoted elsewhere as saying:

"Maybe it will be Tottenham. It is a great English club. I said that I would go to England and there is very good players (at Spurs).

"I have not yet signed. This is going to happen soon."

More on that one here.

FF claims Hazard has agreed terms with Spurs, having turned down Manchesters United and City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, it might not be that simple. Hazard has a release clause in his contract worth 40million Euros, and given how unwilling/unable Spurs are to pay such fees, we wouldn't start getting too excited just yet, Spurs fans.

In any case, and without wishing to wazz on any chips here, if Spurs have north of £30million to spend on a single player, should it not be on a centre-forward, rather than a nippy and creative winger type?

FORMER BOLTON MAN TO REPLACE RVP
Think Arsenal don't have a plan to replace Robin van Persie should he do one in the summer? Think again, friends.

According to The Daily Mail, the Gooners have 'lined up' Benfica striker Rodrigo to come in for their current captain.

Rodrigo apparently has an £18million release clause in his contract, and while he's only started seven games this season, his scoring record is impressive - he has eight goals in that time.

Arsenal will have competition though - Inter Milan are also apparently keen.

Incidentally, if you remember the name, it's because he was briefly on loan at Bolton last season. He scored once.

BRUCE AND CURBS THE FAVOURITES FOR WOLVES
The Gossip Column feels a little bit sorry for Mick McCarthy. Seems like a decent man, straightforward and all that.

However, results is results, and Wolves are rubbish this season, so who will lift them out of the funk they find themselves in?

Well, if these words from Wolves top brass Steve Morgan are anything to go by, Alan Curbishley should keep his phone on.

Other papers suggest Steve Bruce, but Curbishley is now the odds-on favourite with many bookies.

CITY IN FOR JAVI MARTINEZ
Javi Martinez is an interesting player. Formerly touted as a target for the top clubs in Europe as a midfielder, he has been turned into a defender this season by Athletic Bilbao's coach, the maverick's maverick Marcelo Bielsa.

And The Sun this morning suggests that the defender Martinez is a target for Manchester City in the summer.

He would cost around £25million, and The Sun quotes a 'Bilbao club source' as saying: "We don't want Javi to go - only an incredible offer could change our minds."
