GAITAN IN THE CROSS-HAIRS
The Daily Mirror claims the Manchester giants are preparing to square off on the transfer front as they hunt Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.
Manchester City are reportedly readying a £35million bid for the Argentina international, while the Red Devils are also believed to be sniffing around the 23-year-old.
Unfortunately for United, Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to have been set a transfer limit of £30million to spend in the summer.
SPURS SCOUT VERTONGHEN
Tottenham look set to bring in Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen after evaluating the Belgian's performance during the Europa League defeat to Manchester United, Inside Futbol has claimed.
Vertonghen impressed despite his side's 2-0 defeat at the Amsterdam Arena, and his coach admitted that he expected the 24-year-old to be snapped up in January already.
The defender's current contract expires in 2013. Ajax are prepared to extend the deal, but expect the talented Belgian to look for a new challenge at the end of the season.
BALLACK TO BOLSTER QPR?
Bayer Leverkusen have allowed Michael Ballack to leave the club on a free transfer, and QPR look set to offer the German a deal according to TalkSport.
The R's were reportedly chasing the former Chelsea midfielder in January, but failed to rell him in. However, his Bundesliga employers have now opened the door.
Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauer said: "Our contract with Ballack runs until June 30. If he wants to get out early, we can certainly discuss that."
