REINA ON HIS WAY, APPARENTLY
Interesting tale in The Daily Mail, who report that Brendan Rodgers has decided to give Pepe Reina the old heave-ho.
The paper reports that Rodgers has never been sure about the Spanish keeper, and has lined up a couple of potential replacements, namely Jack Butland and young German goalie Ron-Robert Zieler.
Butland would cost something in the region of £6million, while the Hannover keeper Zieler has a £12.2million buy-out clause.
This doesn't mean that their moves for Daniel Sturridge and Thomas Ince are on hold either, apparently, with the former a £12million target and the latter in the £6million bracket, although there is some jiggery-pokery to be sorted involving the sell-on clause that Liverpool have in Ince's contract.
The Mail identifies Arsenal as a potential destination for Reina, but you probably knew that.
LLORENTE ON HIS WAY
Although everyone pretty much knew this, it's always nice to hear it from source - Fernando Llorente has confirmed he'll be leaving Athletic Bilbao when his contract expires in the summer.
"I am going to leave on June 30. I want to develop as a player and try something new," the 27-year-old said.
"It isn't about money because the offer the club made was irresistible.
"The media have not helped with the negotiations and it is one of the things that has generated the bad atmosphere around me out on the pitch. This has encouraged me not to renew my contract; this and many other things.
"I took the decision when I went out for the first Europa League game at San Mames (in August).
"Most of what has come out in the press is lies and this has turned people against me. This has meant when I run out on to the pitch people whistle at me. There is a sector of the crowd who do not want me but I feel loved by the majority."
So there. Arsenal, Chelsea on red alert etc and so on and so forth.
TOON IN FOR LALLANA
The Daily Mirror reports that Newcastle are looking at Southampton's Adam Lallana, another man with more Ls in his name than seem strictly necessary.
Alan Pardew has apparently been an admirer of the midfielder since his spell at St Mary's, so will make a move in January.
Despite the Saints captain only signing a new contract last year, Pardew will 'test his former employer's resolve with a starting bid of £5million.'
DO MEEEEELAN WANT BALOTELLI?
Have some fairly non-commital quotes from various figures at AC Milan about Mario Balotelli.
Max Allegri said: "He is an important player with extraordinary physical and technical qualities.
"I believe, however, given his qualities, he threw away a few years of his career."
And Silvio Berlusconi said, when asked if signing Balotelli is a dream: "No, it's not a dream. I never dream."
