UNITED & ARSENAL IN FOR STERLING
Ooof. Here's one.

The Sun reports that Manchester United and Arsenal will 'fight a £15million battle for Raheem Sterling.'

Blimey.

The paper claims that, with talks not going swimmingly over Sterling's contract at Liverpool, both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson want the young winger.

The Sun reckons: 'He is facing a dilemma over his future because he may not be the regular starter at United that he has become at Liverpool.

'He would likely get more game time at Arsenal and has family ties back in London.'

This one has a strong whiff of Sterling's agents trying to get more moolah out of Liverpool, but who are we to judge such an organ as The Sun, eh?

ARSENAL WANT REINA
The Pepe Reina to Arsenal story seemingly will not go away, which either means it has legs, or our fourth estate has run out of ideas. Your call on that one.

Anyway, The Daily Mirror reports that Arsene Wenger has set his sights on the baldy Spaniard, and they reckon that Liverpool could sell him if the stars align.

And by 'stars align' we mean 'if they can get Jack Butland from Birmingham.'

However, Reina's £110,000-a-week wages might be an issue, and they have apparently lined up Asmir Begovic as an alternative.

It won't end there either, apparently. The Mirror reports: 'Wenger, who has been assured he has big money to spend, is also likely to bid for Schalke's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in January, hoping the Dutch striker may be going cheap at around £6m as he is set to be out of contract at the end of the season...

'Huntelaar has emerged as his preferred striker option, while he is also in the market for a versatile defender and Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.

'Arsenal have been long-term admirers of Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, even though he has set his heart on a move to Italy. Wenger will also definitely bid for Southampton's whizkid Luke Shaw in January, with Chelsea also interested in the 17-year-old.'

HAMMERS WANT CHAMAKH
In what could be more good news for Arsenal, The Daily Mail reports that West Ham might be willing to take Marouane Chamakh off their hands.

Only on a borrow, mind. They're not completely mad. Fiorentina are also apparently keen.

Meanwhile: 'West Ham, however, face a battle to hold on to Momo Diame, with foreign sides now showing interest in the midfielder alongside Newcastle and Arsenal.

'The Senegal star will be fit in three weeks after damaging his hamstring last week and can leave for £3.5million.

'Arsenal, meanwhile, have added Toulouse right back Serge Aurier to their list of potential targets. The club remain wary of Bacary Sagna leaving next year and have watched 19-year-old Aurier.'

MOYES FANCIES BUTLAND TOO
Speaking of young Master Butland, David Moyes is keeping tabs on him as well.

"You are always planning for who is the next Nigel Martyn, who is the next Tim Howard," said Moyes. "We are always looking to see who that next one would be. You have to do that.

"We have asked a couple of times about Butland, but not recently.

"We are just looking out. Chris Woods is a big part of Tim because he works for the US national team as well, now.

"But Chris also does a lot of work looking at the future goalkeepers for us. It is a bit of a specialist job.

"We can all look at goalkeepers and say 'he comes and catches it' or 'he makes good saves, he has good distribution'. But to understand the technique in goalkeeping is a bit more specialist really."
