RANIERI WANTS FRANK
The Daily Mail reports that, with Frank Lampard on his way out of Chelsea, an old friend wants to sign him.
The paper claims Claudio Ranieri wants to bring him to Monaco, where he's currently managing them in Ligue 2.
The French club are owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who is of course ploughing oodles of cash into the club.
The Mail reports: 'Although Monaco cannot match Lampard's net salary of around £130,000 a week, the principality is tax-free and will appeal to the Chelsea midfielder, although his children from a previous relationship are in London.'
LIVERPOOL CLOSE ON INCE
The merits of spending a fair wedge on a player you sold for peanuts last year have been discussed at length, but The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool are 'closing in' on the signing of Thomas Ince from Blackpool.
The Echo claims: 'Blackpool value Ince at around £6million but Liverpool would be able to get a significant discount as they secured a 35% sell-on clause.'
Meanwhile, The Daily Mirror claims Liverpool are sniffing around Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli, whose contract runs out in 2014 so the club could 'cash in' on him should he 'play hardball'.
Also, The Daily Star claims Liverpool are 'on alert' after Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan said he was going to leave.
The paper claims they'll have to find £19.5million from somewhere, but that's his release clause, which are formalities in Spain and usually have no relation to any transfer fee.
NO HENRY CONTACT
We think this was knocking around on Monday, but here are some words from Gerard Houllier, now 'head of global soccer' at the New York Red Bulls.
He said: "I find it strange what we hear in the media.
"If Arsene needed him, he would have called me or sporting director Andy Roxburgh, but this is not the case.
"I do not think both parties need to have this second comeback. Moreover, he became a dad.
"I think he will want to enjoy the holidays."
LESCOTT COULD GO ON LOAN
Quick line from The Guardian now, and they report that Joleon Lescott could leave Manchester City on loan in January.
He is obviously not a favourite of Roberto Mancini at present, so is looking for some football, which seems rather reasonable.
However, with Kolo Toure disappearing to sell some car...sorry, to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, Lescott may get a few games soon.
The Guardian reports: 'Although Lescott is determined to fight for his place he is keen to play and maintain his status as a regular member of Roy Hodgson's England squad and so is prepared to move should he feel the need to, with his former club Everton heading the list of potential suitors.'
BALOTELLI MIGHT BE HAPPIER BACK HOME
Here's Cesare Prandelli, Italy manager, on Mario Balotelli:
"Mancini is absolutely right, Balotelli must listen to him, I agree with him. Everything depends on Mario, however.
"Coaches can try to stimulate and negotiate with you but everything must start from him.
"Returning to Italy could help him. It's important for him to have continuity; the city or the country is not the problem."
WIGAN TO SIGN ESPINOZA

Wigan are set to sign Honduras midfielder Roger Espinoza from the MLS, after bagging a work permit for their man.
