CHELSEA TARGET VILLA
The big Boxing Day gossip is that Chelsea are preparing a cut-price move for Barcelona forward David Villa.

The 31-year-old has struggled to force his way back into the Barça first team after breaking his leg last season and Rafa Benitez is apparently ready to pounce ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool with a £12million bid for the Spain international.

The Mirror report: '(Benitez) wants a player who can operate between the lines in the manner of Manchester City's David Silva, and has identified the Barcelona man as the answer.'

BUT LAMPARD SET TO LEAVE
This story has been doing the rounds for some time, but it now seems almost certain that Frank Lampard will leave Chelsea in the summer.

According to The Sun, a 'gutted' Lampard was told he can leave Stamford Bridge 'BEFORE' (their capitals, not ours) he captained the Blues to an 8-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

A Chelsea source apparently told The Sun: "Frank is absolutely distraught. He wants to keep playing for Chelsea but they've told him to find another club in the January transfer window. He can't believe it. All he wants to do is play for Chelsea. This club means everything to him.

"After everything he has done for Chelsea, he cannot believe the way the club are throwing him out so callously. Anyone who saw his performance against Aston Villa will know he should be the first name on the team sheet.

"To think he went into that game knowing the club don't want him and then to play the way he did tells you what an unbelievable professional Frank is."

Jeez, that guy loves Frank Lampard.

AND TERRY WON'T BE OFFERED A NEW DEAL
And to tie up the Chelsea gossip, The Daily Star claim that John Terry won't be offered an extension to his contract with Roman Abramovich apparently still angry over the way Andre Villas-Boas was treated by the captain.

The Star report: 'The Blues skipper is set to become the latest player to feel the wrath of the Russian billionaire, who has still not forgiven him, Frank Lampard and former star Didier Drogba for failing to back ex-boss Andre Villas-Boas.'

Terry's contract is set to expire at the end of next season, so we can look forward to 18 months of rumours, speculation and heelarious jokes about a transfer to Zenit St Petersburg.

QPR WANT BA
Relegation-threatened club to pay Demba Ba huge wages and sell him for next to nothing if they go down - where have we heard this one before?

According to The Mirror, QPR are set to follow West Ham's lead from 2010/11 by triggering Ba's £7million release clause in January, paying him £90,000 a week and allowing the striker to leave for a nominal fee in the summer if the gamble ends in relegation.

"There are a lot of players at this club who earn far too much money," said Redknapp after the Rs' defeat to Newcastle on Saturday. "I don't really want to see the owners have their pants taken down like they have in the past."

We don't expect this to end well.

SPURS EYE SNEIJDER
Quick line from the Twittersphere now, where Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri claims Tottenham have agreed personal terms with Wesley Sneijder and are now ironing out a deal with Inter for the midfielder.

According to Palmeri, who reported his exclusive on SHOUTsport on Christmas Day (no, we didn't have anything better to do), Sneijder is ready to move to White Hart Lane asap and Spurs hope to seal the transfer as soon as the window re-opens.
