RAFA THE PERMANENT GAFFER?
We suspected it was only a matter of time before this was mooted - The Sun have been first to break ranks and suggest that Chelsea's Interim Manager could become their permanent boss after an impressive run of results. Chelsea have won six of their last seven matches - including an 8-0 win over Aston Villa and a 5-1 victory over Leeds that took the Blues to the Capital One Cup semi-final.

Chelsea fans might want to get those A4 'posters' back out of the drawer.

BAINES FOR CHELSEA?
We go now to an unusual source of gossip - The Independent. They claim that Chelsea have joined Manchester United and Paris St-Germain in being interested in Everton left-back Leighton Baines. It's unlikely he will move in January but they are apparently keen on the £15m-rated player as the long-term successor to Ashley Cole.

Joining him at Chelsea in the summer could be Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, who has indicated that he will not move in January. "I realise that Enrique Cerezo [Atletico president] has made a great effort to keep me and our results have been good. We want to keep that up to the end of the season," said Falcao in his native Colombia.

WHERE NEXT FOR VILLA?
There's quite a battle hotting up for the out-of-favour Barcelona striker - with Chelsea mentioned as one possible destination as well as Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Daily Star claim: 'ROBERTO MANCINI is plotting a shock bid to beat Chelsea to the signing of Barcelona star David Villa,' and suggest that City will have no problem matching his £110,000-a-week wages.

They continue: 'Arsenal are also interested in signing Villa but Starsport understands the 31-year-old wants to link-up with fellow World Cup winner David Silva.'

The Daily Mail suggest that the Gunners are definitely interested and have been quoted a price of £16m - far too rich for a player with no sell-on value. A short-term loan seems far more likely.
