CHELSEA OFFER LAMPARD A DEAL
Well isn't this interesting.

The People and The Mail on Sunday both report this morning that Chelsea have thought about it and decided that Frank Lampard might be worth a new contract after all.

Well whadderyerknow.

The Mail reports: 'Faced with yet another backlash yesterday at Southampton, where Lampard scored as Chelsea crushed Saints 5-1 in their FA Cup third-round tie, sources within the club insisted that discussions had taken place to keep the 34-year-old at Stamford Bridge.

'They declined to go into detail but confirmed that Lampard's £150,000-a-week salary would not be slashed as a primary condition of any new deal.

'The subject of a pay cut has never been raised nor discussed in any of the recent conversations between the club, the player or his agent,' said the source.'

Of course, this might well be a ruse to get the club's fans off their backs - they offer Lampard a three-day contract at £6.19-an-hour, and when Lampard turns it down they can say 'Well, we offered him a deal but he was asking for more than we were prepared to pay.'

Or it could be true. We have no idea. Move along, nothing to see here.

CITY IN FOR CAVANI
More from The People now, and they report that it's Mario Balotelli out, Edinson Cavani in.

Apparently City have made a £45million bid for the Uruguayan hunk, but that seems to have been turned down by Napoli.

Still Cavani fancies a crack at the Premier League, it seems.

"I know that there has been interest from Premier League teams," he's quoted as saying by The People. "I know I would be a success in the Premier League - and it is an exciting prospect."

MODRIC WANTS TO GO
It's fair to say that Luka Modric's move to Real Madrid hasn't gone exactly to plan.

So much so that word on the street is he's looking for a way out.

The Sunday Mirror reports:

'With sources in his homeland of Croatia claiming Modric would consider a swift return to the Premier League, Chelsea, United and City will monitor the 27-year-old's situation. Chelsea tried to sign Modric in 2011 and made a late bid to snatch him from under the noses of Real in August.'

UNITED IN FOR BENDER
Quick one for fans of immaturity, which we at Football365 firmly are.

The Sunday Times report that Manchester United are looking at Borussia Dortmund midfield Sven Bender.

We'd better stop there before we make fools of ourselves.

BRENDAN WANTS CARRA TO STAY
The title tells you all.

Here's Brendan: "He and I have had loose discussions in terms of where he is at. We spoke before Christmas and decided we'd have a chat after Christmas.

"We had a busy period coming up but there is no doubt I want him to stay as a player because he still has a lot to offer.

"It is different for defenders as well. The older you get, you are in that firing line at the back and there is no hiding place. He has been a pivotal player, a real iconic player for the club - he is still in great condition, he looks after himself.

"He turns out every single day and I'm sure there are days that are difficult for him as a player when you don't play.

"But he is a wonderful example to any player, absolutely incredible. And he has still got a few years left in him yet, for sure."
