INCE DEAL 'ON HOLD'
Oh those naughty papers.
They told us - they promised - that Tom Ince's return to Liverpool was all wrapped up, but it quite clearly is not.
And now The Daily Mirror reports the whole thing is 'on hold' because Blackpool are no longer picking up the phone.
The paper claims: 'Rodgers went into the window believing Ince's move back to Anfield was a "done deal", but the Championship club's chairman, Karl Oyston, is playing hardball over the 20-year-old.
'It has reached a point that Blackpool will simply not pick up the phone when Liverpool call - a similar tactic to those Oyston used to stop Charlie Adam leaving the club two years ago, forcing the Scot to stay for another six months.'
Swansea are keen too, so it might be that Blackpool are trying to start a bidding war.
DIAKITE WANTS LIVERPOOL MOVE
In slightly better news for Liverpool, The Mirror claims Lazio defender Modibo Diakite has turned down the Italian clubs 'final offer' of a new contract.
And that's because he wants Liverpool to swoop and take him away from the ghastly, cultureless, ugly hellhole that is Rome.
Diakite's contract is up at the end of the season, and Lazio thus want to cash in while they still can.
Aston Villa are also keen, apparently.
UNITED HAVE TO UP ZAHA BID
A similar story was knocking around on Wednesday, but The Daily Mail reports that Crystal Palace have told Manchester United they must up their offer for Wilfried Zaha.
They will offer £6million for the winger, with assorted add-ons that will take it up to £12million, but Palace aren...hang on, this is more or less exactly the same story as The Express did on Wednesday.
Anyway, David Gill has confirmed that United want Zaha, but not until the summer.
"He is one of the players that we are looking at," Gill said.
"That is all I will say at the moment. I've been in football long enough to say that is not done until it's done. He's one of the players we are looking at, but it is far from done.
"Even if we did do something with Wilfried, that would be for the summer."
NO CALLS FOR MALOUDA
Well, this is just sad.
The Sun reports that Chelsea have had not one call about Florent Malouda. None. Zero. Nobody wants him. Poor guy.
Malouda is no longer required at Stamford Bridge, and apparently Chelsea are quite willing to let him leave for nothing. However, nobody is keen.
The paper quotes a Stamford Bridge 'insider' as saying: "It's becoming a very awkward situation.
"He wants to leave and the club want him to leave. But while he is not playing for the first team he has dropped off the radar and clubs forget about him.
"Chelsea would think about waiving a fee just to get something done if the right club came in."
Presumably a story in the most popular paper in the country will help that one along.
