FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
We do enjoy a good transfer tussle. But one that doesn't last quite long enough to become a saga. It's a fine line. Luckily, there's only a week left of the transfer window, so Liverpool's pursuit of Phillipe Coutinho won't drag on too long.
And especially not if Southampton gazump them, which The Daily Telegraph reckons is a possibility this morning.
The paper reports that Liverpool will make an increased offer for the Brazilian playmaker, upping their bid to around £8million.
However, Southampton have already made a £10million bid to Inter, but the man himself isn't keen on a move to St Mary's.
The paper claims: 'Liverpool's initial £6 million bid was rejected late last week but they have restructured their latest offer and agreed to pay an extra £2 million up front. Inter have been beset by financial problems and could find the promise of £8 million difficult to turn down.'
ARSENAL & LIVERPOOL IN FOR WILLIAMS
Speaking of tussles, there's another in The Daily Mirror.
We like Ashley Williams. We'd like to see him do well. However, we'd like to see him do well exactly where he is, thank you.
The Mirror reports that both Arsenal and Liverpool like him too, and will duke it out for his signature in the summer.
Apparently Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring his old mate to Anfield to beef up the Liverpool back line, while Arsene Wenger has been watching Williams for a while too.
Not in a weird way, mind. Just to see if he's good at football.
You can put the telescope and night-vision goggles away Arsene - he is.
Meanwhile, The Sun also claims Arsenal are also considering a move for out-of-favour Roma keeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
COLOCCINI WALKS OUT
Big story in The Independent, who report that after San Lorenzo announced they couldn't come to an agreement with Newcastle over Fabricio Coloccini, the Argentinean defender will simply walk out of the club.
The paper claims Coloccini's personal matters are such that he will simply leave and return to Argentina anyway.
While we're not entirely sure a footballer can legally just stroll out of his contract, the paper seems sure of their facts.
They report: 'Talks had taken place earlier this week between Coloccini's representatives and officials from Newcastle in a bid to broker a peace deal where the central defender would stay at St James' Park until the end of the season, at which point his position would be reassessed.
'However, after extensive discussions they failed to reach agreement and now the player is set to quit.'
We think, it's safe to say, this is bad for Newcastle.
QPR IN FOR SCOTT DANN
If you can hear a faint noise in the distance, it's F365's Blackburn fan-in-chief Matthew Stanger laughing his balls off at this one.
The Daily Mirror reports that Harry Redknapp's plan to keep QPR watertight at the back is to buy Scott Dann.
This is the Scott Dann who has been relegated in his past two seasons. Poor guy just can't catch a break.
The paper claims Harry Redknapp is in for both him and left-back Martin Olsson, and the pair of them will cost something like £7.5million.
Eesh.
