LIVERPOOL IN FOR BEN ARFA
Good lord, the gossip never stops, does it?
The Guardian reports this morning that Liverpool, having just drawn breath after the end of the January transfer window, are already planning for the summer.
They are apparently looking at Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa, as Brendan Rodgers 'looks to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder's future at Newcastle United and the prospect of Andy Carroll returning to St James' Park.'
The logic goes that Newcastle will need money to buy Carroll, but who needs money when you can just ask for a mercurial Frenchman instead?
The paper claims: 'Ben Arfa is older than all the signings Liverpool have made since Rodgers became manager and Newcastle's asking price could prove an obstacle, but their interest in re-signing Carroll could work to the Anfield club's advantage and an exchange deal.'
West Ham have an option to buy Carroll in the summer, but it is not a guaranteed permanent move, hence Newcastle's apparent interest.
WEST HAM IN FOR BONY
Speaking of West Ham, The Sun reports that Sam Allardyce is 'planning for life without' Carroll by moving for Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony.
The Ivory Coast forward has bagged 16 goals in Holland this season, and in a story quite rightly full of double/single entendres about his amusing name, The Sun speculates that West Ham could bring him in come the summer.
The £12million fee for Bony would be considerably cheaper than Carroll, who would apparently command a fee of around £17million.
In any case: 'Upton Park top brass fear Carroll is determined either to prove himself at Anfield or rejoin old club Newcastle instead of signing a £17m deal to stay in East London.'
NEYMAR TO CHELSEA?
Neymar's in town, so obviously there's a tale about him in the morning papers.
The Daily Star inform us that he is likely to stay in Brazil until after the 2014 World Cup, and after that he could come to the Premier League.
Apparently: 'Chelsea have made repeated efforts to land the striker, who turned 21 yesterday, through his international agent Pini Zahavi, who has strong links with the Blues.'
However, it seems to be a fairly open secret that he's on his way to Barcelona in 2014, so Chelsea fans shouldn't get their commemorative haircuts just yet.
BEGOVIC PLANS TO MOVE
In case you missed it yesterday, Asmir Begovic expects to leave Stoke in the summer.
He said: "I read in the papers that I said no to City and yes to United. But the truth is, I haven't decided on anything.
"I didn't say yes or no to anybody. I haven't signed anything - no contract, no pre-contract. But I believe that Stoke didn't buy Butland to be a reserve so I think I'm going to be sold in the summer.
"To whom? I can't move to a smaller club and I also know that some top clubs are interested in me. They are also the only ones who can afford the fee.
"Now I'm just happy that January is over. It was a hard month for us, so many rumours. Now, we can focus on our games again."
