ROONEY STORY: DAY TWO
A few additional bits on the Wayne Rooney shenozzle now.

The Daily Mail reports that the list of potential suitors for Mr Rooney is quite short - apparently Rooney 'could be left to stew' at United, because a few of the potential buyers aren't keen.

Apparently: 'Manchester City, who were linked with a sensational move for Rooney in 2010, do not feel he fits their needs and remain focused on their pursuit of Napoli star Edinson Cavani and Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao.

'Real Madrid and Barcelona - Rooney's preferred destinations - are both concerned by reports of issues with the England striker's fitness and conditioning, something that has been a worry at United for some time.'

Meanwhile, The Daily Star claims Rooney has 'set his sights' on a dream move to Barcelona.

You'll be lucky, Wayne.

ROONEY MOVE 'DEPENDS ON DZEKO'
The Daily Mirror carries a slightly different take on things, reporting that Edin Dzeko could hold the key to any Rooney move.

The paper claims that if Dzeko's move to Borussia Dortmund goes through (and reports in Germany indicate it's more or less a done deal), then United could buy Robert Lewandowski to replace Rooney, leaving the England man free to go.

So not at all 2+2=5 stuff there, then.

SPURS & LIVERPOOL IN FOR ERIKSEN
Quick line from The Evening Standard, who report that both Liverpool and Spurs are duking it out for Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The paper claims: 'Standard Sport can reveal that the Dutch club expect Eriksen to join an English team at the end of the season, following their decision to cash in on the 21-year-old Dane, who has refused to sign a new contract...

'It is understood Liverpool and Spurs have sent scouts to watch Eriksen "almost every week", according to a senior source at Ajax, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona no longer interested. The Gunners are thought to view Eriksen as a similar player to Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, both of whom prefer to play in the same advanced role behind the strikers.'

Going by that logic, one struggles to see where he would fit in at either Liverpool or Spurs as well, unless either sells a player or two.

SUAREZ GETS A PAY BOOST
Quick line from The Daily Express, which isn't strictly transfer gossip, but still merits mention. Largely because there isn't much else around this morning.

The Daily Express reports that Luis Suarez has been given a pay-rise at Liverpool, due to him being pretty darn good and all that.

The paper claims: 'The Uruguayan striker only signed a new deal last summer that doubled his wages to £80,000 a week, but he has since triggered another hefty increase, which has seen his pay rocket to about £120,000 a week.

'Suarez, whose scoring exploits make him a leading contender for the Player of the Year awards, has indicated he will remain on Merseyside next season and Liverpool will continue to reward him the longer he stays put.'

LIVERPOOL TO 'AUDITION' CARR
One that we think was knocking around yesterday now.

The Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool are giving a trial to a young striker - specifically, 23-year-old Daniel Carr, who has been fair ripping it up this season.

For Dulwich Hamlet.

Apparently Carr will play in Liverpool's Under-21 game against West Ham on Monday, and the outcome of that game will decide whether the club takes him on.

Interestingly, Chelsea are also thought to be keen.
