Chelsea on 'red alert' for Rooney, Carvalho for United, Toivonen for Liverpool and Ince/Lamela Spurs nonsense...
EVEN TRANSFER REQUEST WON'T SEAL ROONEY EXIT
We'll start with the big story of the week, as Chelsea's hopes of signing Wayne Rooney appear to be diminishing.
According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United won't budge on their refusal to sell the striker even if he decides to make a formal transfer request.
It was thought that United might be holding out for Rooney to state his position in writing so as to avoid any hefty 'loyalty' payments, but the Mirror's story quashes those suggestions.
'Despite Rooney's current disillusionment and Chelsea's determination to buy him, United are adamant they will not sell as they brace themselves for a written transfer request from their unhappy striker,' report the Mirror.
'But United are adamant they will not be pushed into selling. Talks between the clubs ended with an agreement that no player from either side would publicly discuss the Blues' pursuit of the striker.'
Although Rooney is increasingly becoming a problem at Old Trafford, it makes perfect sense that United wouldn't want to strengthen a direct rival under any circumstances.
It seems Chelsea are not prepared to give up without a fight, however, with the London Evening Standard reporting that Blues will make Rooney their highest-paid player if he forces through a move to Stamford Bridge.
WENGER GIVEN GREEN LIGHT ON SUAREZ
Arsene Wenger has been told he can increase Arsenal's bid for Luis Suarez to the magic number of £40m, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners have reportedly had two bids of £30m and £35m rejected in the past week but it appears Suarez has overtaken Gonzalo Higuain as Wenger's top target after Real Madrid upped their asking price for the Argentinian.
The only problem for Arsenal it that it seems Liverpool have now done the same, with Brendan Rodgers hinting that the Reds are seeking as much as £55m for Suarez - the same price PSG paid for Edinson Cavani.
"Obviously for a player of his quality, when you consider that Cavani has gone for £55million you know...Luis is up there in that bracket of top talent," said Rodgers.
There may be some hope for Arsenal, however, with the Mail reporting: 'Suarez's agent, Pere Guardiola, argues that the sum triggers a release clause and Liverpool have conceded they would have to listen.'
LIVERPOOL FIGHT TO KEEP AGGER
Another player Liverpool could face a fight to hold onto this summer is Daniel Agger, who has emerged as a target for Barcelona.
The Sun claim that Barca are plotting a £12m bid for the defender after PSG refused to play ball over an offer for Thiago Silva.
'Nou Camp boss Tito Vilanova is desperate to bolster his backline and is said to be a huge admirer of Denmark international Agger,' reports The Sun.
After Liverpool rejected a £20m bid from Man City last summer, we think this one can be filed under 'unlikely'.
CITY EYE SALVIO
After agreeing deals for Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic, Manchester City are set to continue their summer spending with a move for Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.
The Independent claim City have made a £25.8m bid for the 23-year-old, which would see them smash the £100m barrier in their squad overhaul.
Although City have not yet confirmed the bid, Benfica have apparently set about replacing Salvio as they expect to a deal to be concluded.
According to The Independent: 'The Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira Ferreira is understood to be asking €40m (£34.4m) though a compromise would appear likely.'
