Chelsea on 'red alert' for Rooney, Carvalho for United, Toivonen for Liverpool and Ince/Lamela Spurs nonsense...
REAL MADRID FAIL WITH BALE BID
There's a consensus among the Sunday papers that Spurs have rejected an enormous offer from Real Madrid for Gareth Bale.
We'll hazard a guess and say that much of this speculation has come directly from Madrid mouthpiece Marca, who claimed on Saturday that a €93million bid has been slapped on the table.
The Daily Mirror claim that Real Madrid haven't been deterred by Spurs saying 'no dice' to £80million and will return with an improved offer of £85million - because when you're negotiating at those prices an extra £4million is what really matters.
'Spurs are set to hand Bale a new £170,000-a-week contract and have repeatedly claimed he will not be sold,' report the Mirror.
'But there are fears at the White Hart Lane club that Bale's head is being turned by Real's refusal to give up on him.'
This line is repeated by the Guardian, who say that Bale is 'distraught' at Daniel Levy's refusal to do business, this time at a price of £86million.
According to the paper: 'Real have made their move for their long-time target and Bale is determined to complete the transfer.
'Bale cannot believe that Levy is blocking what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, with the chairman merely maintaining that his prized asset is not for sale.
'The situation has got under Bale's skin and it is threatening to turn ugly.'
Meanwhile The Sun believe Real will return with a cash-plus-player offer for Bale (because that always works, right?), throwing in Angel Di Maria and Fabio Coentrao plus £51million.
This one's going to run and run.
CHELSEA TO INCREASE ROONEY OFFER
According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho has been told he can increase Chelsea's offer for Wayne Rooney to £30million, with the Blues boss willing to wait until deadline day to complete the transfer.
Apparently Manchester United aren't willing to sell the striker before Chelsea's visit to Old Trafford on August 26, presumably owing to the fear that Rooney will come back to haunt them.
The Sun's story also includes some semi-interesting quotes from Mourinho:
"The club is in a very good balance with salaries, income, outcome. So not to break the balance in our numbers and to still invest in a player that costs £20m, £25m, £30m - the club is ready for that.
"Do we need to sell first? No, no, no, we don't need to sell. The striker I want doesn't cost £50m, doesn't cost £40m."
And when asked if he is prepared to bide his time until the end of the window, Mourinho added: "That's why it is open."
Despite his confidence Mourinho may still meet a brick wall in his bid for Rooney, with the Mirror claiming that United will refuse all offers to sell the forward to a Premier League rival.
Apparently the champions are 'desperate' to sell Rooney to a foreign club, although that now looks unlikely after PSG and Monaco already splashed out on new strikers this summer.
FABREGAS WANTS UNITED MOVE
The rumours that Manchester United have been given some encouragement in their bid for Cesc Fabregas look set to continue as the Express report that the player's agent, Darren Dein, has told the champions he is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
According to the Express, United's chief executive Ed Woodward flew home from the club's pre-season tour to hold talks with Dein, who also facilitated Robin van Persie's move to Old Trafford last summer.
The paper report: 'Dein told Woodward that Fabregas wants to return to the Premier League and that United and not former club Arsenal, who have first option on the Spanish midfielder, is his preferred destination.'
We imagine this will prompt United into a third and final bid for Fabregas, despite new Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino reiterating that the 26-year-old is not for sale.
The Daily Mail claim United will put in a final bid of £36million for the midfielder. If/when Barca reject it, Marouane Fellani remains David Moyes's chief Plan B.
2+2 = SUAREZ TO ARSENAL
Quick line from the Daily Mail now, who claim Arsenal are growing increasingly confident of signing Luis Suarez after Real Madrid focused their efforts on capturing Gareth Bale.
Apparently Arsenal believe they now have a free run at Suarez, but the Gunners still need to meet Liverpool's £50million asking price to complete the transfer.
